MISSION STATEMENT WGCT strives to be one of Silicon Valley's most innovative children's theatres by providing programs and performances of original plays. We cast all children in our productions and firmly believe that children are transformed through the magic of theatre.
WGCT HISTORY “We offer every child the chance to act on stage,” says founding director Gavin Coffing. When he started the Willow Glen Children’s Theatre (WGCT) in 1988, Coffing created a unique program that not only allows participants to act in original plays, but also to participate in an organic creative process. Over twenty-one years later, WGCT remains one of Silicon Valley’s most innovative children’s theatres and we continue to cast every child in our productions. Our extraordinary approach to theatre gives children the tools to increase self-confidence and make friends in a safe and supportive environment. In addition to acting skills, children develop their presentation, speaking, listening, and reading skills. The final performances evolve organically through collaboration from participants, staff, and director. WGCT has found an artistic home at the Willow Glen Community Center and we have been performing at the Little Theatre at Willow Glen Middle School since 1988. Our staff includes talented and dedicated individuals, all former participants. We make it our mission to ensure that each child is successful from start to finish. In addition, these teen and young adults are excellent role models, both in and out of the theatre.
