NOTICE: In light of recent developments with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Santa Clara County, the City of San José will be closing all youth serving programs, including Willow Glen Children’s Theatre. This closure took effect on March 14, 2020. We remain hopeful that programming will resume at Willow Glen Community Center as soon as it is safe to do so.
“We offer every child the chance to act on stage,” says founding director Gavin Coffing.
When he started the Willow Glen Children’s Theatre (WGCT) in 1988, Coffing created a unique program that not only allows participants to act in original plays, but also to participate in an organic creative process. Over thirty years later, WGCT remains one of Silicon Valley’s most innovative children’s theatres and is now directed by former participant, Jordan Kilpatric.
Our extraordinary approach to theatre gives children the tools to increase self-confidence and make friends in a safe and supportive environment. In addition to acting skills, children develop their presentation, speaking, listening, and reading skills. The final performances evolve organically through collaboration from participants, staff, and director. Moreover, we continue to cast every child in our productions.
WGCT has found an artistic home at the Willow Glen Community Center.
Our staff includes talented and dedicated individuals. We make it our mission to ensure that each child is successful from start to finish.
